Why Professional Dental Cleanings and Periodontal Charting are necessary: |
Professional Dental Cleaning-Our highly skilled hygienists will clean your teeth and remove all plaque, tartar and calculus. Then they will polish your teeth with your choice of traditional polish which comes in many flavors or using our Prophy Jet to remove staining on your teeth. This is recommended every six months for children and adults with healthy gum tissue. Full Mouth Debridement - Sometimes patients need extra attention because they have a large amount of calculus or tartar deposits on their teeth. This procedure is specifically for removing deposits on the teeth to allow for further examination and cleaning. Many patients require this procedure if they haven't been to the dentist in a while. Periodontal Scaling and Root Planing - In order to treat periodontal disease it is necessary to remove deposits and bacteria from well beneath the gumline. Our well trained hygienists can do this for you in office using local anesthetic for your comfort. This is the first step to treating your periodontal disease and improving your oral health. Periodontal Maintenance Procedures - After a patient has begun treatment for periodontal disease with Scaling and Root Planing, they will need to see the hygienist every 3 months for at least one year. The bacteria that cause periodontal disease regrow in approximately 90 days, creating a need to have the hygienist remove the plaque and calculus from the teeth and clean the bacteria out of the periodontal pockets in order to continue moving toward improved oral health. After one year, we will re-evaluate the gums and reassess how often the patient needs to see the hygienist. |
